Nursery Progress

We have been spending a lot of time creating a nursery... and we've actually been making some progress!  Honestly the whole idea of re-doing a room totally overwhelmed me... which is why it is FANTASTIC that I married an architect who LOVES this type of stuff!  Brent has created visions for how we could paint and finish the room to make it a complete BOY nursery.  I've been trying to train him to use Pinterest to pin all his ideas....

The nursery room was probably one of the least updated rooms in our home.  When the room was Amy's, she kept talking about wanting to re-paint it and freshen it up but we never got around to it.  Then the room became the office, Brent want to re-floor it and paint the walls also but the thought intimidated me.  FINALLY when we decided to make it the nursery it was pretty obvious that the carpet had to go and I agreed to FINALLY accept the idea of re-painting it.  I can't believe how much better it looks now and how much more clean and FRESH it feels!  I feel bad we didn't paint (and patch up the closet) when Amy was living in that room 5 years ago!

Below: The room with carpet and trim all torn out.  We discovered we are pretty dang good at demo work!  So much more fun than trying to piece things back together and having to be careful.  As you can see by the swatches on the wall, we were originally going to do an orange accent wall.... but it turned into a dark blue accent wall instead.  Brent's sister Sarah spend quite a bit of time helping us paint the walls to PERFECTION!!

My dad came over to help us put in new flooring!  He is the best!  He totally gave up a super sunny, warm, spring Saturday to spend crawling around on his knees!  Both he and Brent were sore for days after...and Brent was digging out slivers for quite a while after the floor was laid also!  It was nice of my mom to give up my dad's time because it meant that some of her projects for my dad didn't get done that Saturday, either.

Since my Dad lives next-door we had a LONG air hose from his air-compressor, through his backyard, through our backyard, and up through the nursery window.  (Kind of threw off my parent's lawn-boy... he wasn't quite sure if he should mow around the hose or try rolling it up.)

...the hose stretched all the way INSIDE the nursery room with plenty of hose to spare!

Brent and my Dad working away on the floor.  (Notice how my dad is wearing gloves?  Smartie!  After digging out all Brent's wood-flooring slivers we did buy him some gloves also... so NEXT time we put in a wood-floor he'll be prepared and hopefully sliver free!)

After a SUPER long day of putting the floor in... we ended up SIX INCHES short on wood!  SERIOUS!!  Not sure how our calculations went wrong!!  Brent and my Dad were actually pretty dang efficient with the wood... I dug and dug through the trash to try and find ANY pieces of wood to help fill the 6 inch hole and there were no pieces to be found!  ...We're still working on coming up with a solution that does NOT involve buying a whole new box of wood!

We are making awesome progress... and learning a lot about tools and construction along the way!  Our next step:  putting up trim and finally bringing in the crib!
